Fra il 1890 ed il 1915 circa 22 milioni di
persone sbarcarono sulle coste degli Stati Uniti d’America come
emigranti. Di questi, circa 5 milioni furono italiani.
-
Giulianova non si sottrasse a questo stillicidio
e furono in molti tra i nostri concittadini a tentare in America
quella fortuna che in Italia non trovavano: la necessità di una
fonte di sostentamento sicuro per sè e per la propria famiglia, il
desiderio di una vita più vivibile, il sogno di realizzarsi, furono,
a volte tutti insieme, delle molle formidabili per distaccarsi
dall’amato paese d’origine.

Le scelte spesso furono obbligate, ma i
risultati non sempre furono brillanti: qualcuno tornò “vincitore”,
qualcun altro dopo aver vinto le sue sfide dimenticò la via del
ritorno, qualcun altro ancora accettò la sconfitta e tornò umilmente
a casa; altri ancora, infine, furono sopraffatti dalle difficoltà e
continuarono in suolo d’America la loro vita di stenti già
sperimentata in Patria, finendo per sempre dimenticati.

Noi vogliamo ricordarli tutti indifferentemente,
nostri nonni e bisnonni, per aver fatto le loro scelte nel desiderio
implicito di migliorare, oltre che il loro presente, il loro futuro,
cioè la vita di oggi, la nostra.

L’elenco qui sotto riporta i nomi di cittadini
giuliesi emigrati negli Stati Uniti d’America negli anni tra il 1902
ed il 1930 desunti dalle Liste dei Passeggeri delle innumerevoli
navi
che hanno trasportato sogni e speranze
attraverso l'Atlantico.

Di ciascuno di essi sono disponibili molti dati,
come l’età, il mestiere, dove e da chi si recava, quando partì, da
dove e con quale nave, quando arrivò a New York, ecc. Naturalmente
non sempre si è fortunati e spesso possono essere recuperati solo
pochi dati... ma meglio di niente, no?

I dati, messi a disposizione gratuitamente, sono
desumibili dagli enormi archivi riguardanti i milioni di emigranti
sbarcati in quegli anni ad
Ellis Island,
New York.

From 1890 to 1915 about 22 million people disembarked on the coasts
of the United States of America as emigrants. Of these, around 5
million were Italian.
-
Giulianova didn't escape to this constant trickle and many of our
fellow citizens tried to find in America that good luck that they
didn't find in Italy: the necessity of a source of maintenance for
themselves and for their families, the desire for a more livable
life, the dream to fulfil themselves, were at times all together
remarkable incentives to move away from the beloved country of
origin.

The choices were often forced, but the results were not always
bright: someone returned as a “winner”, somebody else after winning
his challenges forgot the way back, somebody else accepted the
defeat and humbly returned home. Others unfortunately were overcome
by difficulties and continued in the U.S.A. the poor life they had
had in their own country, forever forgotten.

We want to remember all of them indifferently, our grandparents and
great-grandparents, to have made their choices in the implicit
desire to improve, as well as their present, their future, that is
today's life, ours.

In the list below you can find the names of the inhabitants of
Giulianova who emigrated to the United States of America from 1902
to 1930, deduced by the Lists of the Passengers of the innumerable
ships
that transported dreams and hopes through
the Atlantic Ocean.

Many data are available for each of them as the age, the job, where
and who they went to, when they left, from where and by which ship,
when they arrived in New York, etc. You might not be lucky, as for
some names there are few available data... but better than nothing,
isn’t it?

The freely available data come from the huge archives concerning the
millions of emigrants landed in those years
at
Ellis Island,
New York.
